Quit Smoking Easy with Willpower
There is no force as powerful to create positive change than that of the human will. If you are a smoker who wants to quit, you can. It is very important that you truly want to quit, despite any discomfort you might be in for. You cannot quit for your spouse, your kids or anyone else – you have to quit for yourself. Once you make the ironclad decision to get rid of cigarettes for good simply do not allow yourself to waver.
Easier said than done, you say? While it's true that smoking cessation can be unpleasant there are all kinds of ways to ease the discomfort. From home remedies to prescription medications smokers can get help in their effort to become non-smokers. One home remedy that some people swear by is to suck on a whole clove until the craving goes away – just don't chew it! Others find success trading cigarettes for lollipops or chewing gum.
There are nicotine patches, nicotine gums and nicotine lozenges. These items are called nicotine replacement therapy or NRT. They work well for some people but others feel they are simply dragging out their addiction. Whether or not NRT is for you depends upon many factors that should be discussed with your doctor. He or she can tell you all the pros and cons of nicotine replacement therapy so you can make an informed decision.
Also, ask your doctor about the new stop smoking medications like Chantix and Zyban. They are supposed to help block cravings while easing the withdrawal from nicotine. If you want to quit cold turkey, it is advisable to taper down to zero cigarettes over a gradual period of time to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms may include cravings, irritability, anger, loss of concentration, insomnia, headaches and more.
No matter what kind of therapy you choose to help you quit, if any, the most important thing you can have is willpower. If you really do want to quit smoking easy, don't make it harder than it has to be. Create a plan of action, follow through with it, tell yourself you are a non-smoker and you will be. Once you've finally broken the bonds of nicotine addiction you will realize how smelly and filthy smoking is, and be thankful you are no longer addicted.
